So Fran had a complete hard drive meltdown and everything on my main and back-up drives was totally lost. The only good news is that my external back-up drive survived so it wasn't a total loss. Fran is back online. In the end Dad replaced the power supply, which seems to imply that her blowout was a result of his botched repair attempt. She still whirs a little bit on boot-up occasionally so I suspect there may be a deeper problem with some other part of her internal workings, but for now it's not proving a problem and I'd rather not lose ( Read more... )

Fran is fixed at last.... I think. Bought a new fan and Dad put it in, then when that didn't work we realized it was actually the fan in the power supply that had failed, so Dad took the power supply out and put the fan we'd taken out in to replace it. She seems to be satisfied for now, returning to the gentle purr of machinery instead of that ( Read more... )

Computer is once again running as it was before; though I've still lost all my old information. I'm gonna spend tomorrow searching down all my old icons and pics from where I stole them all. I've also set about writing some of my fics again; I'm gonna clear up the shorter ones and set about writing notes for the longer ones.
